World Premier - Paul Moravec's Parnas Duo

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Paul Moravec A few years ago I was delighted to meet and hear Madalyn and Cicely for the first time in a New York performance of my Passacaglia. With this new work, Parnas Duo, I set out to reflect, as much as possible in a single-movement piece, the wide range of their technical and artistic mastery. The work is dedicated to the Duo with great admiration. This performance is the world premier.

Parnas/Kohlberg Trio

Parnas/Kohlberg Trio photo and review in the New York Times.

"But just before the Shostakovich, the Parnas Sisters, who also perform as the duo parnas gave a stunning account of Martinu's lively, sometimes prickly Duo for Violin and Cello. The intricate give-and-take between the cello and violin lines was perfectly balanced and suffused with the kind of electricity and drama that showed the work - and the players - in the best possible light."   --Allan Kozinn, The New York Times

"They have a professionalism that is not glossed or layered for effect... Both of them have a rich, thoughtful approach. There's a purity to their playing."   --Peter Serkin

Sharon Robinson, Jaime Laredo "duo parnas is amazing! They possess the rare combination of passion and fiery technique coupled with sophisticated musicianship and a maturity well beyond their years."
--Sharon Robinson

"They are phenomenally gifted, intelligent, and mature young musicians [...] I remember Leslie Parnas from the early Aspen days when I studied with Darius Milhaud and am thrilled to see his superb musicianship has passed on so stunningly."   --William Bolcom

"The duo Parnas gave the piece an electrifying read, couching it in a lush tone and executing its complex interplay with pinpoint precision."   --Allan Kozinn, The New York Times

"Madalyn and Cicely Parnas each have a sound that can at once evoke brilliance and warmth, and complement each other well; their intonation and ensemble are near-flawless, and they can pivot from a rich sound to powerfully incisive playing with startling ease. Best of all, their thought-provoking playing... "
